TUTORIALS

All our tutorials are on a one to one basis held in our shop. We can work to your speed and experience. We give tutorials on many aspects of sewing, sewing machines, craft sewing, paper craft sewing, embroidery and embroidery software.

Our tutorials are based on 1hr time slots to make easier to fit in around your working days. Day courses are available, prices on request. 

Below are a list of tutorials we offer, all tutorials are based on £25.00 per hour and include materials unless you want to work on anything specific, then you would need to bring your own materials or they could be supplied at an extra cost.

A 50% non refundable deposit is required on all tutorial bookings. 

If there is something you wish to learn but is not listed, please contact us as we can quote lesson time and price for you. 

Your teacher is Catherine Price who is a seamstress by trade running her own bespoke wedding dress and historical costume business for 8 years and has been sewing for over 20 years (started when she was 8 years old). Catherine not only has a City and Guild Diploma in pattern cutting, designing and garment construction but is also a historical re-enactor and a fourth generation seamstress.

General Dressmaking

Zips - In this lesson we cover the 3 main zips, concealed, dress, open ended and how to insert them including hints and tips.
Time - 1hr 30min Price - £ 37.50 inc materials

Seams - We cover the basic seams and seam allowance edging used in basic dressmaking. Seams covered are plain open, plain to the side, French, over edged (if your sewing machine has this stitch, stretch and curved.

Understanding Paper Patterns

Learn how to read and use paper patterns, including cutting out the fabric and how to assemble when cut.
Time - 4hrs Price - £100.00 inc materials

Overlocking 

We give overlock lessons on the overlocks we supply in the shop, but if you wish to use your own over locker, please contact us with make and model to see if this is a possibility.
Covered in the lesson, converting from 4 thread to 3 thread, 
roll hemming (if your machine allows) and general hints 
and tips to get perfect overlocking.

Freehand Motion Embroidery

Learn to create embroidered picture, lace effects and monograms using any basic sewing machine. By using a darning foot you can produce a range of freehand embroidered or quilting pieces. Once you have sampled this technique your imagination is your only limit.

Computer Embroidery Software

We sell and specialize in the Janome, Bernina, Singer and the new Creative Drawings embroidery software packages. The lesson covers the basics for all packages, hints and tips, basic digitizing, changing stitch patterns and colours, resizing, outlines, lettering. We aim to break through the computer jargon. Unleash your creativity and discover the potential hiding in your embroidery software.
Time - 2hrs Price - £50.00

Corsets 

This is run as a day course and covers the construction of a Victorian corset, including the boning and lacing. A basic level of sewing in required, not suitable for beginners.
Time 9.30am - 4.00pm tea break and 45mins for lunch Price - £150.00 inc. materials
